Poros

Poros is a lovely verdant small island in the southern part of the Saronic Gulf, easily accessible by the mainland, in the Peloponnese.

The island is a popular resort for short holidays and a favorite weekend destination for Athenian travelers. It is full of lush pine trees which reach the shore and beautiful sandy beaches. In ancient times it was considered the island of Poseidon, God of the Sea.

The capital of Poros is built amphitheatrically over two hills, consisted in fact of two islands, Sphairia and Kalavria, connected between them with a narrow strait. The town, declared protected settlement, is adorned with exquisite traditional mansions and picturesque cobbled streets.

Askeli is the largest and most popular seaside settlement, located only 1,5 km from the main port, with a lively waterfront, shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as a water-ski school. Among the island’s best sandy beaches, Love Bay is well known for its crystal-clear waters and Megalo Neorio for its green pine trees, that reach the water’s edge.
