Milos, GREECE

Milos

Milos is an island in the southwestern part of the Cyclades with one of the most unique landscapes in Greece.

The island offers a stunning natural beauty due to its volcanic origin. It is usually called “the island of colours”, with more than 75 beaches! The impressive Sarakiniko, a “lunar” landscape with emerald green waters and endowed caves, offers a unique rare scenery of the Greek nature. Many other beaches, such as Mytakas, Alogomandra, Papafragkas and Agios Konstantinos, are some of the most famous beaches, very popular for the red, yellow or white colors of their spectacular rock formations. Adamandas port, one of the largest natural harbors in the country, is actually the hollow of the principal crater. Due to the ancient volcanic activity, Milos offers many thermal springs, known from Antiquity for their healing quality.

The island has also got some lovely traditional villages that are worth visiting, among which Plaka, the islands’ capital, and Emporios.

For those who want a bit of history, Milos won’t disappoint them. The most visited archeological areas are the prehistoric settlement of Fylakopi, the mining museum that exhibits 11,000 years of mining history and the Christian catacombs. Numerous fine works of art have been found on the island, notably “la Venus de Milo, the statue of Aphrodite, held in the Louvre Museum in Paris, the statue of Asclepius in the British Museum in London and the statue of Poseidon in the archeological museum of Athens.

Its unique history and its wild virgin natural beauty have listed Milos as one of the most impressive islands all over Greece.
