Astypalaia, called the “butterfly of the Aegean Sea”, because of its shape, is one of the most beautiful islands of the Dodecanese complex, offering relaxed moments in a unique natural environment.

The island has a significant history and sights that are worth seeing such as the Castle of Astypalaia, the Archaeological Museum, the Cave of the Negro in Vatses area, the Ancient infant cemetery etc.

The town of Astypalaia, built on a hill with windmills, is very impressive, ideal for walks and nightlife in its picturesque paths.

The island offers amazing beaches with crystal clear blue waters and views of the sunset such as Agios Ioannis, Megalo Steno, Kaminakia and Blue Limanaki. In addition, diving is organized at the Livadi area with the famous impressive virgin seabed and hiking in the Ftera area.

Also worth visiting is the old port of Pera Gialos, the beautiful picturesque villages of Vathi and Maltezana but also going on a day trip to the neighboring uninhabited islands of Kounoupi, Koutsomytis and Plakida to enjoy their magnificent landscape.

Finally, the island is famous for its excellent local food such as the pougia, the macarounes and famous traditional products such as the saffron of Astypalaia, the honey and the oil cheese. During summer visitors can participate in many cultural events, highlighting the traditional character of the island.
